Welcome to a special Cyber Monday edition of SuperPhillip Central's Favorite VGMs. I recommend taking a break from your online shopping pursuits and mellowing out with this fine assortment of five brand-new VGMs. There's music for everyone here, stuff from Star Fox, Parasite Eve, Sonic Heroes, and even some goodies from the Xbox 360 exclusive Beautiful Katamari and the PS1 classic Xenogears. Though if you think spoiling the final boss of a 15+ year-old game is irresponsible, you may have a problem with this edition!
To check out more VGM goodness, look no further than SuperPhillip Central's VGM Database.
v1016. Star Fox (SNES) - Asteroid Stage
Star Fox, report in. Time to fly your Arwings through the myriad of hazardous asteroids of all shapes and sizes. Perhaps if you're a skilled ace pilot you can find the means to travel to the mysterious Black Hole level from this stage. It's no easy task, so keep calm and steady your ships! With Star Fox Zero releasing early next year, it felt like a good time to hearken back to the Super Nintendo original with this theme.
v1017. Parasite Eve (PS1) - Out of Phase
A catchy theme that plays an ostinato throughout most of its duration, Parasite Eve's Out of Phase is a composition from the incomparable Yoko Shimomura, better known for her work on the Kingdom Hearts franchise and the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. Parasite Eve deserved better as a franchise than to end on a sour note with the PSP's The 3rd Birthday.
v1018. Sonic Heroes (PS2, GCN, XBX) - Frog Forest
Time for a mellow rock theme with Frog Forest from Sonic Heroes, a game that tried a lot of new things, most specifically its three character team approach. Depending on who you talk to, the outcome of Sonic Heroes and its quality remain debatable. However, one point that can't be argued by SuperPhillip Central's standards is the excellently done soundtrack, a mainstay in the Sonic the Hedgehog series for the most part.
v1019. Beautiful Katamari (360) - Guru Guru Gravity
Time to get grooving with the tubular rhythm of Guru Guru Gravity, a lively track from Beautiful Katamari, the Xbox brand's lone Katamari Damacy title. If you're like SuperPhillip Central, you might agree that the Katamari Damacy series got milked for all it was worth, removing a lot of the innovation in future games. Still, we can't help but enjoy immensely wacky franchises like this one.
v1020. Xenogears (PS1) - Awakening
The final boss theme of Xenogears, Awakening is a tense thrill ride from beginning to end. Released in a limited capacity, Xenogears ended up outselling Squaresoft's expectations, making it one of the more valuable PlayStation games from the company. Regardless of the gameplay, what makes Xenogears truly shine in SuperPhillip Central's book is the soundtrack, composed by the phenomenal Yasunori Mitsuda.

SuperPhillip Central's Favorite VGMs - That Rat Bastard Groundhog Edition
Today is Groundhog Day, and apparently Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. Therefore, there will be six more weeks of winter. Well, this Phil says that groundhog is a rat bastard. That said, his "weather report" is hardly going to ruin this week's edition of SuperPhillip Central's Favorite VGMs. Instead, I have great tunes for you guys this week, including themes from Parasite Eve, Boom Blox, and Mario Kart: Super Circuit! I see my own shadow, but that's because I'm standing in front of a lamp right now. Anyway, let's get to the cool tunes!
v806. Parasite Eve (PS1) - Primal Eyes
Yoko Shimomura to me is the female equivalent of Nobuo Uematsu. Her composing skills and compositions for the video games she works on are out of this world. She is on a totally different level, just like Uematsu. Her work on Parasite Eve is also fantastic, offering tense, melodramatic, and spacey themes all in one soundtrack.
v807. Boom Blox (Wii) - Blockland
Let's shift gears completely from sci-fi horror to wacky puzzle goodness with Boom Blox. It was part of a supposed three game deal with Hollywood director Steven Spielberg and Electronic Arts. At least Boom Blox made it out, and I'm grateful, as the game is a ton of party goodness fun. The soundtrack was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, whose music I was first introduced to with his Rugrats cartoon score.
v808. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (DS) - Weyard
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was set 30 years after the events of The Lost Age. It saw the children of the heroes from the first game embark on their own adventure. Motoi Sakuraba was brought on board to compose the music for this third Golden Sun game, as he is known to be Camelot Software Planning's go-to composer. While the soundtrack isn't his best work, it still features plenty of excellent tracks, including this world map theme.
v809. Shadow the Hedgehog (PS2, GCN, XBX) - GUN Fortress
We go from a heroic theme to something relaxing and chill with the GUN Fortress level theme from Shadow the Hedgehog. Laced with guitar and percussive beats, GUN Fortress does not have nearly the amount of edge as the other themes in the game. It is a welcome change, as GUN Fortress itself as a level is a much slower paced one.
v810. Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA) - Cheese Land
To finish off this edition of SuperPhillip Central's Favorite VGMs, we go to a place where the streets are paved with cheese. No, this isn't "An American Tail", this is Mario Kart: Super Circuit's Cheese Land, a ridiculously zany track concept for even Mario Kart! The song is suitably catchy and will have almost anyone finding the theme bopping around in their heads as they race on this cheesy track.
