Review Round-Up - June

The boys are back in town as the highlighted review of June.

The summer doldrums are here, so the notable game releases have slowed down to a snail's pace. This meant that SuperPhillip Central needed to rely on retro reviews as well as less reviews than normal. Still, there were six special reviews in all for June 2012. The original Rayman kicked things off with an 8.0 while the Wii version of Pikmin 2 scored a 9.0. The creative Monster Tale was chronicled with a 7.5. Meanwhile, my older brother ventured deep into Dracula's castle for his review of the very first Castlevania game which netted a 7.0. The two reviews that rounded out the month includes Geist (7.0) and LEGO Batman: DC Super Heroes which heroically earned an 8.25. In all, it was quite a productive month.

Central City Census - July

June definitely heated up the responses on the old Central City Census with over 100 individual votes. The question asked regarded what each one of your favorite PlayStation platforms was. Let's count up the results:

It was a dead heat between the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 3, but in the end the PS2, Sony's best selling platform, pulled an impressive victory, taking 35% of the vote. The PS3 was close on its heels with 31% of the vote. Meanwhile, the original PlayStation made its mark with 14%. I'm surprised it wasn't higher as the console was home to such greats like Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Trigger, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Vagrant Story, Star Ocean, and many more. Lastly, the two portables of Sony lagged behind the rest with the PSP getting 11% and the Vita getting 8%. Not bad for something that has been out for less than a year. I wonder what will be asked for July's census?

Nintendo has been around the block for quite a while, and they have faced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows yet have stuck around in the face of tremendous adversity. Similar to June's poll about asking for your favorite PlayStation platform, what is your favorite Nintendo home console so far?

New SuperPhillip Central Milestone - A Half-Million Views!

It was in the wee hours of the morning that I noticed that the counter at the bottom of the sidebar had something significant on it. It had logged in over 500,000 page views at SuperPhillip Central since May 2009. That's not the only milestone either.

For the month of June 2012, SuperPhillip Central finally reached over 50,000 page views in one month. I doubt we'll come close to that again any time soon as this month had E3 bringing in plenty of traffic. Regardless, thanks to everyone who continues to visit and frequent this blog of mine.

Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) Logo & New Trailer

My first and only brush with the Monster Hunter franchise was on the Wii with Monster Hunter Tri, and the only reason I tried it was because I wanted a new Wii game and wanted to support a massive third-party effort on the platform. That said, Monster Hunter Tri hooked me on the series, even though I was a passable player at best. Monster Hunter 4 expands the series to new heights with new mechanics and gorgeous graphics. Expect Monster Hunter 4 to roar onto the Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2013. It's heads or tails whether the rest of the world gets to join the hunt.

E.X. Troopers (PS3, 3DS) New Trailer

Set in the universe of Lost Planet, Capcom's E.X. Troopers is one delightful-looking game. It's immensely more appealing to me than the Lost Planet games. It's crisp, it's colorful, it's filled with personality, it's action-packed, and it's coming to the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS. The trademark has been filed in North America and Europe, so could it be only time until it gets localized?
